A Guide to Creating your Dream Life.
We tend to underestimate the opportunities that we miss. We think we have our lives ahead of us, and little do we know that our decisions make up our being when we get older. We dream and believe we've lost a window of opportunities for our dreams to come true. So we turn bitter, angry and accept the status quo because we think our lives are over. But what if we can make this dream come true? What if there is a way to create our dream life without hesitation or second thoughts?
The only way to move forward is to control how we want to continue living our lives, and there are ways to achieve that.
Reflect on your current life
To create the dream life you wish to see or have, you need to think of your life as chapters or main pillars. Each part completes the other, but each piece will require the utmost attention from you. Your life is divided into relationships, family, money, career, cinance, environment, adventure, health and wellbeing and spirituality.
You can start identifying your life by creating a pie chart. This chart is divided into pies where each pie identifies a specific segment. You can then ask yourself, how satisfied are you in that segment? You can give yourself a score based on your happiness and satisfaction level.
You can also reflect on why you deflect attention to some aspects of your life and why it might be less satisfactory for you. Ask yourself:
why have I been neglecting this aspect of my life? What might be the reason?
What can I do today to change that?
You can also think about the good in your life and not only look at the negative. We tend to underestimate our growth and progress by focusing only on the negative. Therefore, look at the areas in your life that are scored in the higher range and ask yourself;
What is the thing that makes me feel proud?
What am I grateful for in my life?
Dream
At this point, you can create prompt questions on how you think your life should be considering these points. We thought of a few questions that can spark some inspiration to dig deeper and ask more. Remember, these questions should set the scene to create more rewarding goals and aims for your dream life.
In 10 years, how do you picture yourself?
How do you see yourself living?
What will you be doing? What kind of activities do you see yourself doing?
What is "passion" for you?
Who will be with you 10 years from now?
What are the skillsets that you'll have?
Who will you surround yourself with?
How are you going to manage your finances? What will you own?
How are you going to give back?
What would be your motto in life?
Make them SMART
It would be a hopeless case if you look at your dream life and keep it on paper. You should have so much excitement in you to make your dream life attainable. There is no better way to do this than to cluster your life into chunks of goals that should be SMART in nature. SMART goals work mainly because they are super focused on specific frames and times. In this case, you won't be only chasing dreams; you'll be making them.
Get started!
All these steps should prep you for this last stage: take action. All the plans in the world will fail if no one is courageous enough to take the first step forward. Therefore, look at your goals, and map them out through a 1, or 2-year plan. Each should be mapped on how much you can achieve of them or how soon.
If your goals don't fit shortly, you can still keep them in mind. Either by visualizing it or having it written somewhere where you can see it right in front of you.
Everyone might be daydreaming and thinking if only I could get the chance to do so and so, but not everyone acts upon those dreams. A strong person will challenge and defy themselves to chase their hopes, aspirations, and goals.
