What do you want?
April 2022
This blog post is dedicated to those who are stuck in the abyss of the unknown. They tend to find themselves wandering the shadows of careers and passions that they've been told they "need" to survive but haven't had the chance to take a step back and ask the most critical question; what do I want?
When we're so engrossed and trust the voices of those around us, it can take us in multiple directions or no direction at all. When we get used to listening to the world's demands and ignore our instinct and gut feelings, or even what we like, we tend to forget how to take the road back to this voice.
How do you go there? What do you do to get back on the track meant for you? and you only?
Always ask yourself why.
Spending time with yourself over a cup of hot tea or coffee can be the best thing you can give yourself to create an environment that induces and welcomes the flow of ideas and thoughts. I suggest that you spend at least one hour with yourself and start asking, why am I doing what I'm doing today? Why am I pursuing this career? Why do I feel like I'm in a rut?
The trick is to unleash the layers of "why" one step at a time. The more you ask why, the greater you'll uncover yourself, needs, wants, desires, behaviors, attitudes, and dreams.
Once you have all the answers in place, start looking for behavior patterns or thoughts. Analyzing this can deepen your understanding of where you stand and what you could potentially pursue.
Create Interest pool
By creating an "interest pool," you'll have a 180-degree snapshot of what interests you as a person. Spending time to write down all your thoughts, interest, hobbies from different fields or genres of life can allow you to see yourself on paper.
Prioritize
After setting what interests you as a person, you can select 10 top things that you'd spend 90-80% of the time doing. Remember, pursuing your passion means that you get to spend a lot of time in it until you reach mastery level.
Pilot
Test it! See how it feels. We can't know what is meant for us until we experience it ourselves. The testing phase can be where you reflect on your experience and see what works and what doesn't. It is a fun process where experiencing new things can allow you to uncover layers of yourself that you might not have known or don't see in yourself.
In short, you can take any of those steps and play them around as you wish. All those thoughts were inspired by the book "Pivot : The Only Move That Matters Is Your Next One" by Jenny Blake. You can find more about the book in levitate favorites.
"Your choice, today and in the future, is to pivot or get pivoted. Pivoting is a mindset and a skill set, and you can get better at both" - Jenny Blake
